Magical Days for Spellcasting

Choosing when to cast a spell need not be complicated. If you feel like casting a spell, go to it. However, many people feel that spells are more powerful when they are cast during certain moon phases and moon signs and even during specific days of the week. This is because various planetary energies are believed to be more available for use during this time and those energies can add a bit of strength to your own.

I admit I don't buy into this completely, but I do give it some credence. I choose to time my spells according to lunar cycles and days of the week for my own reasons.

First, because it gives me more confidence. I'm not sure that planetary energies are going to help me, but if they're there, I want to use them.

Second, it gives me time to think about what I'm doing. It's always better to plan a spell ahead than do it on the spur of the moment because spells can be life-changing events. If I determine that the best time to cast a spell is next Tuesday, I have between then and now to solidify my intent or change my mind if that's the way it's meant to be.

And third, and probably most important, I believe there is a time for everything. I eat dinner at 7pm and go to bed at 10pm or I get cranky. I buy my lottery tickets on Wednesday. I like to get my work done in the morning and goof off in the evening. If I have a client scheduled at 7pm, it throws off my whole day unless I'm working straight through. February is spring cleaning and November is when I honor my dead. It's only natural then that I should decide that certain days are appropriate for certain spells. I also use the same methods to select days on which to have rituals in honor of specific deities. You'll find these in parentheses where appropriate, but keep in mind that they are arbitrary. I often worship more according the season than day, though they do coincidentally related quite well to the sun sign, if not the moon sign.

Phases of the Moon

To use lunar phase energy to enhance your spells just follow this simple rule.

To draw something to you, cast your spell any time between three days after the new moon to the full moon, with the full moon being the best. I find that spells using spell scripts are best performed closest to the full moon.

To send something away from you, or for binding spells, cast your spell anytime between three days after the full moon to the new moon, with the day of the new moon being the best. I find that astral magic, dream work and active meditation works best closest to the new moon.

Aries
Ruled by Mars and the element Fire (Ares)
(Sun ~March 21-April 20)
Good for starting new projects or business ventures, especially those that need a little push or extra courage. Also a good time to buy, cleanse, bless, etc. any magical tool with a blade. Anything related to courage, matters of personal strength or self improvement (like breaking bad habits, esp during the waning moon), changes resulting in a complete change of how you do things or a paradigm shift, protection, especially for the military.

Taurus
Ruled by Venus and the element Earth (Aphrodite)
(Sun ~April 21st to May 20th)
Anything concerning the arts, including work to support building new theatres, galleries, etc. , submitting manuscripts, auditions, the success of exhibitions and performances. Working toward peace. Encouraging prosperity and material comfort, building new habits for self-improvement, protection of material items from loss, damage or theft.

Gemini
Ruled by Mercury and the element of Air (Hermes)

A good time to work on divination and prophecy, wishing spells, luck in gambling, communication, working for positive reception of manuscripts, articles and term papers, increasing web traffic, success in school, getting into the school of your choice.

Cancer

Work on spells to increase love and respect within the family (waxing) or the banish barriers to familial harmony (waning), to calm emotional turmoil, to heal the pain of past wrongs within familial relationships, cleansing, blessing, purifying and protecting the home, psychic development and divination. Ruled by Mars and Pluto and the element of water (Artemis)

This is a good time to cast obsession spells (if there is ever a good time) as well as self-defense and protection spells and exorcisms(waning), banishing of negativity (waning). Spells to increase courage (waxing) and spells for transformation are also given strength during this time as well as spells related to death, rebirth and inheritance, sex, lust, human fertility and passion.

Sagittarius
