This strawberry moon we get to experience the earliest of the Earth's bountiful harvest including strawberries, raspberries, greens and edible flowers. As Midsummer, one of the most joyous of Sabbats approaches, (June 21) we share the Earth's bounty with our friends and neighbors with picnics and Barbeques and what better way to celebrate Midsummer; whatever significance you give it.
The new moon in Gemini on June 3rd occurs during a Mercury retrograde and gives us the perfect opportunity to call upon the energy of Mercury to help us communicate with our inner selves. Take the time to journey and seek out new wisdom this night because it is the new moon closest to the Earth and so it's power is significantly greater than that of any other new moon throughout the year. If you live near a body of water, you will see this in the high tides.
The full moon in Sagittarius is full of joy and enthusiasm and invites us to celebrate our accomplishments. I invite you to utilize my Celebrate the Self ritual on the full moon on June 18th to take advantage of this powerful energy.
I have noticed, and perhaps you have too, that there is alot of emphasis in Pagan tradition on embracing the feminine. But once in awhile, I think it's good to take note of the masculine as well. While it's true that the male would not exist if the female did not give him birth, it is also true that the female womb is just another organ without the male's seed. June is the perfect time to honor the masculine because it is just full of positive male energy. Father's day is June 15th and the God is often honored at Midsummer, June 21st.
So take this time to honor the men in your life or, if need be, to come to terms with them. And if you are a man, take the time to appreciate your manliness. Here is a ritual from About.com for honoring fathers and here is a Midsummer ritual honoring the Holly King and Oak King.
