The Hunter's Moon

Today marks the beginning of this year's Hunter's Moon cycle which will peak on October 26th at 12:52 am with the Full Hunter's Moon in Taurus. The new moon in Libra invites us to focus on balance, specifically within our relationships. Now is the time to step back and take a good look at what is going on in our relationships and plant the seeds of intention to make positive changes. Remember that all relationships require a balance of give and take to be healthy and all of our relationships are important- not just the romantic ones. So think about your relationships and see if there's one you can work on this month, and if you're finding a lack of a certain relationship- maybe you'd like a partner, or maybe you're not happy with your current employer, maybe you need to work on finding and building a new relationship. Now is the time!

Other names for the Hunter's Moon are Cricket Moon, Salmon Moon, Snow Moon

This year's Hunter's Moon is followed up with the moon at perigee at 7am. This means that the moon is at its closest point toward the Earth. The combination of the full moon and perigee makes for very high tides and also affects moisture levels in the soil. This makes the day of October 26th an excellent day for planting, as Taurus is an Earth sign, it is further enhanced and since the sun is in Scorpio, my suggestion is that you get started on those spring blooming bulbs! It's also a good time for transplanting.

Artemis

The Hunter's Moon makes me think of the Huntress, Artemis. She is one Goddess I have always had a rather rocky relationship with. We have little in common as I've always been rather lusty and She doesn't go in for that sort of thing. And, I'm a vegetarian. So I did some research on Her in order to get to know Her better and sort of heal the rift between us. I'd like to invite you to take a look at what I found. http://www.sacredhearth.com/BOS/Gods/Artemis

Spend some time doing your own research too. There is so much information on the internet about Artemis, but the best sources are the The Homeric Hymns and The Orphic Hymns.

If you are a hunter, you may feel a special connection to Artemis, or Diana, or perhaps Herne the Hunter speaks to you more strongly or Arvins, or Ochossi or the Horned God. Spend some time this month getting to know your Hunter. Even if you aren't a hunter, if you eat meat, it is just as important to do this research to show respect for the creatures that die to become our food- even if you never meet them in person. You may wish to dedicate this full moon's ritual to the Hunter of your choice and offer a portion of your hunt to the patron of Hunters.

Samhain

It's that time again! Halloween is coming and we're rushing to decorate and get our costumes together and right on its tail is Samhain!

You can find my brief write up of Samhain at http://www.sacredhearth.com/bos/holydays/samhain

And here are my two favorite Samhain recipes
