Pagan Names

Thank you for your interest in my Pagan baby (pet, grownup) name database. This database has gotten SO big and unwieldy that for the sake of ease of use, sanity and the good will of my host, I am in the process of moving it offsite. It will eventually have it's own domain & everything, but for now you can find it at http://pagannames.wikidot.com/start

You will still be able to use the Pagan name list here, just realize that it will disappear eventually!

Welcome to the front page of my Pagan name database. Whether you are naming a baby, a pet or familiari, yourself or a character in a story, I hope that you will find something here to suit your needs.

The names in my collection fall into several catagories. Many are selected from Pagan myths, such as Aenid, the Odyssey, the Mabinogion, the Eddas and others. Some are more modern sounding names from cultures from which many modern Pagan traditions claim roots. Others are nature names, such as names of plants, stones, animals and natural landscape features. A few are names based on the names of Gods worshipped by Pagans in various traditions.

Some of them are obnoxious and wouldn't be at all suitable for a baby, but some of them, you may be surprised to learn, are very normal-sounding. I have included all sorts of names here, even the ones that make me cringe. Who or what you attach them to is your business.

With different purposes for names comes different ways of looking for them. So I am providing you with several ways to search.

If you wish to dive headlong into your search and use the alphabetical index
Or you may wish to search by gender. You can search for feminine names here. Or masculine names here.

In addition, you can look at names by traditioni or origin by clicking on one of the following (Some of you may not agree with my catagorization, but there it is. You'll find subcatagory links inside. Note that may links overlap.

African including Egyptian, Ewe, Yuroba, etc.
Celtic, including Welsh, Irish, Briton, Gaulish Celt and Druidic Path
Eastern, including Shinto, Hindu, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, etc.
Heathen, including Germanic, Norse, Asatru, Odinism, etc.
Hellenic, including ancient and modern Greek names and names from the Greek myths.
Literature, names from fiction, folklore and fantasy.
Native American, including North, South and Central American and Hawaiian traditions
Nature-based Names of animals, insects, stones and natural phenomena.

Other and Traditional including Wicca, Stregheria, Romany, etc.

Many people use composite names like Silver Ravenwolf, Starhawk, and Morningbird (that's me!) as craft names I haven't included any of those names in this list. I have included some nature based names like Blossom, Forrest and Rose, but it will be up to you to embellish them. I will be doing a Totem list soon (animals and plants) which you may find useful in selecting a craft name. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy what I've collected here. Whether you're naming a new baby, or a new pet, yourself or your creation, I hope that I can help you out.

If you think of more names that I'm missing, feel free to pass them on at dawn.black at gmail.com. Also, if you find a name here that you use, I'd love to hear about it!
