I am interested in joining a Pagan group in my area. Where do I find them? And how do I tell the good from the bad?

First, there are Pagan group listings for just about every area of the world at www.Witchvox.com I have personally had much better luck meeting other Pagans at www.Meetup.com.

You may have many choices to contact, or only a few. Feel free to shop around to find something you're comfortable with. Don't feel bad if it takes a long time. Don't decide to be hang out with people just because they're Pagan either. Find people you are comfortable with.

Remember that there are no false religions, just religions that aren't right for you. If you aren't comfortable in any situation, just walk away. Don't feel bad, don't apologize, just keep looking. No religious group should ever require you to do something you're not comfortable with; follow your instincts and trust them! You may want to evaluate a group before joining using Bonewits' Cult Danger Evaluation Frame.

If you have trouble finding a physical group, you could consider a virtual coveni or e-group. There are many out there and they can be quite fun and fulfilling- as well as non-threatening.

That being said, you don’t need a group to be Pagan, so if you have trouble finding one, don’t despair. I was without a group for a long time and there are many solitary Pagans out there who simply prefer it. There are many books out on Paganism that can help you on your way. You can find some in suggestions on the reading list.
