Living a magical life

Magic and Spells

Magical spells involve using your own personal energy and "flavoring" or "coloring" it towards a specific goal and then sending it out into the universe to achieve a goal, or sending it into an object that will in turn release it into the universe, or sending it into a person, place or thing toward which the desired affect is aimed.

Used in the vernacular, the word "spelli" usually describes the script and props used to color and direct the practitioners energy, rather than the actual function, which takes place unseen in the background. You can perform magical spells without props and scripts. Simply use visualizationi to color your energy and send it where it needs to go.

Spells, that is scripts for casting spells, are used to trick the logical, practical, everyday mind through the use of words, actions, symbols and the use of the senses into cooperating with what your creative mind is doing. These symbols and actions do not actually do the work of coloring, aiming and sending out your energy. Your unconscious mind does, through its interaction with them. This is helpful for the beginner or for someone who doesn't use magicki often.

While spell scripts are completely unnecessary for the experienced witch, many still choose to use them. This is because the sense of rituali that they invokei is enjoyable to us and links us to our spiritual nature. It is often difficult to relax and settle into a meditative state after a hard day's work without some ritual to help us focus. We are, after all, still children of our modern era. The ritual also helps us feel that we are connected to our Gods while we are performing this magical work which is, after all, more within their realm of influence than ours. These rituals can honor them and often incorporate reciprocal offerings for their assistance with the work.

This is not to say that one cannot be an atheist and perform magick. Magical energy comes from within the self and from the world, indeed the universe at large. Not believing in Gods does not mean that one also must not believe in this pool of energy that touches all things nor does it mean that this pool of energy is outside our reach. Indeed anyone can do magic, atheist, Christian, Pagan, Hindu, Jew... anyone. Obviously if your religion prohibits it you probably shouldn't, but that doesn't mean you can't.

Anyway, here you will find a collection of my own spells. You are free to use them, adapt them to your own style and religious focus, or reject them as useless if that suits you best. Please, however, do not copy them over to your website or print them in a book and call them yours. That is simply bad form.
